May primary election
The money measures were the big winners in last night’s primary election’s. In Deschutes County, all of the money measures passed including those for Bend Fire and Rescue and Deschutes County Rural Fire Protection District Number 2. Along with those passing, the La Pine Rural Fire Protection District, the Sisters School District Levy and the Sisters Park and Recreation Levy. The 2 measures to amend the city of Bend Charter both passed, as we will have a mayor elected as mayor and not a city council member, and the council members will see a pay raise for the work they do. In locally contested races, for Deschutes County Commission Position 3 Patty Adair has defeated incumbent Tammy Baney by several hundred votes. The other commission position number 1, Republican, Tony DeBone defeated Ed Barbeau.
For Jefferson County Clerk, Kate Zemke was the winner, Mae Huston, and Kelly Simmelink won their races for county commission position number one and 2 respectively, and the measure to form the canyon view road district passed. In contested races in Crook County, John Soliz beat Brian Huber for county assessor.
For state and federal races that are contested, Knute Buehler will oppose Kate Brown in November for Governor and 2nd District Congressman Greg Walden will go up against Jamie McLeod-Skinner. For Oregon House District 53, it will be Jack Zika against Eileen Keely, for District 54, Nathan Boddie will take on Cheri Helt and in District 55, Karen Rippberger will face Mike McLane.
